EVENTS
The meeting agendas have been expanded to reflect the Association’s concerns, one of particular importance being that more needs to be done to attract the younger generation into the Port and Shipping industries.
A highlight in the port’s social calendar for the past decade has been the Association’s Summer Gala Dinner, a charity fund raiser from which the Association has been able to provide donations to local maritime charities and associations such as various maritime youth groups and the Seafarers Centre.
The Association collaborates in fund raising initiatives with Southampton Master Mariners Club and supports local maritime heritage projects such as the SS ‘Shieldhall’.
The SSA also endeavours to arrange school visits to ships in Southampton and to promote our industry wherever possible.
Membership currently comprises more than 30 companies from all the marine sectors. Formal meetings and less formal networking events are well attended.
