Official opening of Sea Cadets new facility
On Saturday 28th September 2019 Ash Jenkins and Nick Jeffery attended the official opening of the new facility of the Southampton Sea Cadets at their HQ on Vespasian Road.
The ceremony was overseen by Captain Andy Moll and Captain Martin Phipps and was well attended by the cadets and staff from the unit. A very slick guard of honour was provided to their vip guests, including
the First Sea Lord, who cut the ribbon to officially open the new premises.
As per RN tradition at the naming of a new ship, he also cut a cake with the assistance of the youngest member of the ship's company.
The Mayor of Southampton, Councillor Peter Baillie and former Mayor, Councillor Les Harris, also attended. Councillor Harris had made the unit his chosen charity during his term as Mayor.
We took this opportunity to present the unit with a cheque for £2500, this being the money raised at this year's summer ball.
The additional space afforded by the new premises will allow the unit to substantially increase the number of cadets it can accommodate. A very welcome outcome as they have a long list of youngsters waiting to join.
